Using Advanced Outlook Repair to Convert Outlook 2003/2007 Unicode PST File into Old Outlook 97-2002 ANSI Format |

Note: You must have Outlook installed to use this guide.
Since Outlook 2003, a new PST file format is introduced that has many more advantages than the old one. The new format is also called Unicode format commonly, while the old format is then called ANSI format accordingly. Both names will be used throughout this guide.
Although the new format is much more better than the old one, sometimes (mostly for compatibility reasons) you still need to convert the PST file in the new Unicode format into the old ANSI format. For example, you want to transfer the PST data from a computer with Outlook 2003/2007 to one with only Outlook 97-2002 installed.
Microsoft hasn't developed a utility that can perform such a conversion. But don't worry. Advanced Outlook Repair can help you in this matter. |

| Step 1 |
Start Advanced Outlook Repair. |

Before converting a new Unicode PST file with Advanced Outlook Repair, please close Microsoft Outlook and any other applications that may modify the PST file. |

| As the PST file is in the new Outlook 2003/2007 format, please specify its file format to "Outlook 2003/2007" in the combo box  beside the source file edit box. If you leave the format as "Auto Determined", then Advanced Outlook Repair will scan the source PST file to determine its format automatically. However, this will take additional time and is unnecessary.

| Step 4 |
| By default, Advanced Outlook Repair will save the converted data into a new PST file called xxxx_fixed.pst, where xxxx is the name of the source PST file. For example, for source PST file Outlook.pst, the default converted file will be Outlook_fixed.pst. If you want to use another name, then please select or set it accordingly: |

You can input the converted file name directly or click  button to browse and select the converted file name. |

| Step 5 |
| As we want to convert the Unicode PST file into ANSI format, we must select the format of the converted PST file to "Outlook 97-2002" in the combo box  beside the converted file edit box. If you set the format to "Outlook 2003/2007" or "Auto Determined", then Advanced Outlook Repair may fail to process and convert your Unicode PST file.

| Step 6 |
Click  button, Advanced Outlook Repair will start scanning and converting the source Unicode PST file. Progress bar  will indicate the conversion progress.
After the process, if the source Unicode PST file can be converted into the new ANSI PST file successfully, you will see a messagebox like this:

Now the new converted PST file is in the ANSI format, which can be opened by Microsoft Outlook 97-2002. |
