Recover file
Click "Recovery" tab in the dialog, you can start recovering orphaned or damaged Microsoft Exchange offline storage(.ost) files, or recover OST file data from undamaged or damaged virtual machine disk files, backup files or disk image files:
1.Input or select the orphaned or damaged Microsoft Exchange offline storage(.ost) file to be recovered. You may also click the search button 
to search and select the ost files to be recovered in the local computer.
2.Specify the format of the source ost file, according to the version of the Exchange client. If you are using Exchange client 5.0, 5.5 or Outlook 97-2002, then please select "Outlook 97-2002" as the format. If you are using Outlook 2003-2010, the please select "Outlook 2003-2010" as the format. If you are using Outlook 2013-2019/Office 365, the please select "Outlook 2013-2019/Office 365" as the format. If you don't know the version of the Outlook(Exchange client) for the OST file, then you can select "Auto Determined" so that DEXR will determine the OST file format automatically.
3.If your OST file is stored on the following file:
•VMWare VMDK(Virtual Machine Disk) file(*.vmdk). For example, you store your OST file on a virtual disk in VMWare. •Virtual PC VHD(Virtual Hard Disk) file(*.vhd). For example, you store your OST file on a virtual disk in Virtual PC. Or you make a backup of your OST file via Windows Backup and Restore function. •Acronis True Image file(*.tib) •Norton Ghost file(*.gho, *.v2i) •Windows NTBackup file(*.bkf) •ISO image file(*.iso) •Disk image file(*.img) •CD/DVD image file(*.bin) •Alcohol 120% Mirror Disk File(MDF) file(*.mdf) •Nero image file(*.nrg) |
and you cannot access the data in the OST file for some reasons, for example:
•You delete your OST file from the virtual disk in VMWare or Virtual PC. •You format the virtual disk in VMWare or Virtual PC by mistake. •The virtual disk in VMWare or Virtual PC cannot be mounted or launched properly. •The virtual disk in VMWare or Virtual PC is corrupt or damaged. •The backup file on the backup media is corrupt or damaged and you cannot restore your OST file from it. •The disk image file is corrupt or damaged and you cannot retrieve your OST file from it. •And many more ... |
then you can still recover the data in the OST file by scanning and recovering the corresponding virtual machine disk file, backup file or disk image file. Just select the file as the source file to be recovered.
You can use "Format" to specify the format of the data in the OST file to be recovered.
4.In "Output recovered file as", specify the name of the recovered PST file. During the recovery process, the data in the source file will be analyzed, recovered and saved as a new file with this name.
5.Specify the format of the output PST file. If you have Outlook 2003-2019/Office 365 installed, then the output format can be either Outlook 97-2002 format, or Outlook 2003-2019/Office 365 format. However, if you have Outlook 97-2002 installed, then you can only specify Outlook 97-2002 format. You may also select "Auto Determined" option so that DEXR will output recovered PST file according to the version of Outlook installed on your computer, i.e., the recovered file is in Outlook 97-2000 format if Outlook 97-2002 is installed, or in Outlook 2003-2019/Office 365 format if Outlook 2003-2019/Office 365 is installed.
6.Click "Start Recover" button to start the recovery process. You will see the change in progress bar. If you want to abort the recovery process, click the "Stop Recover" button.
7.After the recovery process, a new recovered file with the name specified in step 3 is generated.
8.You can click the "Save Log" button to save the recovery log into a file. You can also include additional information in the log file by selecting the "Include System Information" option in the save file dialog. These information can help our technical supports to diagnose your system and solve your problems more efficiently.
Note:
•If you are using a demo version of DEXR, then after the recovery, it will output a recovered PST file containing all the recovered messages and other items, with the actual contents in them filled with a demo information. Please order the full version to get the actual data in the messages and other items.
