*In this post, we are glad to share with you 3 useful ways to change a commented text in your Word document.*

It’s common and easy to make revisions by commenting on a selected text. However, there can be times you need to expand or shrink the text selected. For example, you may need to  include or exclude one or more words in the selection. Unfortunately, there is no built-in way to change the commented text while keeping the comment contents the same.![Change a Commented Text in Your Word Document](https://www.datanumen.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/242.jpg "Change a Commented Text in Your Word Document")

Lucky for us, we are able to find 3 workarounds.

## Method 1: Delete and Insert Comment Again

1. First of all, select and copy the comment contents to clipboard.
2. Next click “Review” tab.
3. Then click “Delete”. This deletes the comment.![Click "Review"->Click "Delete"]( "Click \"Review\"->Click \"Delete\"")
4. Select a new range of texts.
5. Click “Review” and “New Comment”.
6. Press “Ctrl+ V” to paste the copied contents.![Expand Commented Text]( "Expand Commented Text")

## Method 2: Change the Text in “Draft” View

1. At first, click “View” tab.
2. Then choose “Draft”.![Click "View"->Click "Draft"]( "Click \"View\"->Click \"Draft\"")
3. Now let’s say you need to include one or more words before or after the commented text. And put insertion pointer after the first or before the last letter in the commented text.
4. Next type the first or the last letter.
5. Then cut and paste the words to be added between the 2 duplicated letters.
6. Finally, delete the unnecessary letter.

It’s much easier to shrink the commented text.

1. First repeat the first 2 steps.
2. Next cut the unwanted words and paste them in a proper location.

## Method 3: Run Word Macro

Here is the third way to enlarge the commented texts, which is to run a macro to get the job done.

1. First and foremost, select a new range of text which must include the original commented text.
2. Click “Developer” and then “Visual Basic” to trigger the VBA editor in Word. Or press “Alt+ F11” instead if the “Developer” tab is not available in your Ribbon.![Click "Developer"->Click "Visual Basic"]( "Click \"Developer\"->Click \"Visual Basic\"")
3. Next insert a new module by clicking on “Normal” in the left column.
4. Then click “Insert” on the menu bar.
5. Choose “Module” on the drop-down menu.![Click "Normal"->Click "Insert"->Click "Module"]( "Click \"Normal\"->Click \"Insert\"->Click \"Module\"")
6. And open the new module to have the editing space available by double clicking on it.
7. Now paste the following macro there:

```
Sub ChangeCommentedText()
  Dim objRange As Range
  Set objRange = Selection.Range
  '  Add comment to the newly selected texts with the same comment contents.
  Selection.Comments.Add Range:=objRange, Text:=Selection.Comments(1).Range.Text
  objRange.Comments(1).Delete
End Sub
```

8. Last but not the least, click “Run” or press “F5” to get the macro started.![Paste Macro->Click "Run"]( "Paste Macro->Click \"Run\"")
