How to Change the Default Templates for All New Workbooks & Worksheets in Excel

The feature of templates in Excel is very effective. Thus, today we will discuss about how to change the default templates for all new workbooks & worksheets.

Open with Workbook Templates

This image below shows an Excel template of sales volume of all the sales volume. And you can use this template in your Excel workbook.An Example for Workbook Template

  1. Click the button “Save” in the quick access toolbar.Click the Button Save

Besides, you can also click “File” and then click “Save” to save your template.

  1. In the “Save As” window, input the name “Book” into the “File Name” text box.
  2. And then in the “Save as type” part, choose the option “Excel Template”.Input Save As
  3. In the address box, input the path that your file will be saved in: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

The path will be a little different in different computer. And you need to change the path in your computer.

  1. Next click “Save”.

Thus, you have saved your template. And the next time you open a new workbook, it will be totally the same workbook as the template that you have saved before.

 

Open with Worksheet Templates

If you want to add a new sheet with the format that you have set, you can also use the template feature.

  1. Delete all the other sheets in the workbook. Therefore, in the workbook, there is only one sheet with the format that you need.
  2. Then click the button “Save” in the quick access toolbar. Besides, you can also click “File” in the ribbon and click “Save” or “Save As”.
  3. Input the name “Book” into the “File Name” text box.
  4. And then in the “Save as type” part, choose the option “Excel Template”.Input Save As for Sheet
  5. And then in the window, input the same path in the previous part.
  6. And now click “OK”.

Thus, you have saved the sheet as template. The next time you create a new sheet in the workbook, it will automatically create a sheet with the same format that you have saved.
