A Quick guide to using Outlook Inbox Repair Tool from Microsoft

Microsoft’s Outlook software allows users to manage and send email messages. It also lets them access their email and attached files when they are online, making it the prefered email client of choice for millions. Microsoft’s Outlook client allows users to manage their personal and work emails in a simple, efficient manner. Apart from email capabilities, it also offers Calendar, Task Manager, Contact Manager, note taking, a journal and web browsing within the application. The best part about Outlook is that it can be used as a stand-alone application or can be run on the Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, which is used by organisations with multiple users to monitor and manage the exchange of email messages and other functions within the organisation. Sometimes a damaged or corrupted OST file manages to throw the entire inbox off-balance. At this point, Outlook repair becomes extremely important as users need to recover the lost emails and restore their inbox. For this very purpose, Microsoft has offered the Outlook Inbox Repair Tool, which is also refered to as the ‘Scanpst.exe’ tool, which allows users to fix corrupted or damaged Outlook files that make-up an inbox. The main task of the Outlook Inbox Repair Tool is to repair the damaged and corrupted OST and PST Outlook files so that users are able to recover the complete or a part of the information which was lost to them the files crashed. In order to run the repair tool, users need to first make sure that the Outlook application is not running, allowing users to run the Outlook repair process much more easily. Then, they need to access the ‘Find’ option located in the Windows ‘Start’ Menu. After that, click on the ‘Files and Folders’ option and copy paste ‘Scanpst.exe’ on the ‘Named’ box and click on ‘Find Now’. When the Scanpst.exe file appears then users need to double-click on the file in order to start the tool. As the tool opens up, users would need to type-in the name of the PST or PST file they want to repair on the ‘Enter the name of the file you want to scan’ box or they can locate the file using the browsing option. After the users have selected the file they need to repair, they can click on the ‘Start’ option to initiate the process. The Microsoft tool will then scan the file in question and will give a detailed reported informing exactly what is wrong with the file. Users can then chose to quit without repairing the file or can select the repair option. It is advisable to allow the tool to create a back-up of the file before it begins to repair it. Now, once the Outlook repair process gets completed, user can check whether or not the file has been repaired. To do that, open the Outlook application using the profile which contains the file that has been repaired. If the ‘Folder List’ is not available instantly, then users need to go to the ‘View’ option and select ‘Folder List’. When the folder list appears, users need to locate the desired OST or PST file and click on it. The name of the repaired file will be changed to ‘Recovered Personal Folders’. If the file has been repaired than it contents would show up in the ‘Lost and Found’ folder.
