How to Add and Format Comments in Your Excel (Part I)

Some additional features in Excel can help you improve your work efficiency. Among those features, the comment is a very useful one. In this part, we will thoroughly introduce about inserting, hiding as well as deleting comments in Excel.

Excel is usually used to store and analyze data and information in your work. But sometimes, you will probably check other people’s Excel files and see if there is any problem. In this process, you can insert comments in Excel to add the result you have found. And now follow us and see how comments take effect.

Add a Comment

There are two ways that you can add a comment. And the following are the steps of inserting comments in Excel.

Method 1:

  1. Select the cell that you want to add a comment.
  2. Then right click.Insert Comment

And there will be the user name in the comment. But if you want to change the name, you can also modify directly in the comment.

Method 2:

  1. Select the cell that you want to add a comment.

You will also find that there is an arrow between the cell and the comment. This represents that the comment is set for this cell. You can also drag the comment to anywhere you want, and the arrow will also change the shape. But all the time, the arrow will connect the two objects. And now you can add your result into it.

Hide the Comment

Once you have inserted a comment and add the contents, you will certain move on to check other cells. However, the comment will cover a part of the cells, which will disturb you. Thus, you can now hide it.

  1. Click the border of the comment. The border is a little narrow and this step requires a little carefulness.Click Comment Border
  2. In the In the Review tab, click the button of “Show/Hide Comment”.Hide Comment

Thus, this comment that you have selected will hide. And there will be a small red triangle on the top right corner of the cell. Move your mouse to the small triangle, the comment will appear.

If you want to show the comment the next time, you can select the cell, and then also click this button. Thus, you can see and modify this comment.

Delete a Comment

Now if you want to delete the comment that you have inserted earlier, you can also follow the steps below.

  1. Click the border of the comment.
  2. And now press the “Delete” on the keyboard. Therefore, the comment will be deleted from your worksheet.
